SATAN Biography, June 2015

SATAN are a British heavy metal band formed in 1980 in their home town of Newcastle Upon Tyne. The band is considered influential for playing a form of proto-thrash/speed metal that was fairly advanced by the standards of the early 1980s, influencing major acts like METALLICA, EXODUS, DEATH ANGEL.

SATAN released two demos, a 7″, a four song EP, and two full length Albums before going into hibernation in the late 1980s.

After reuniting in 2011 with the line-up from their classic debut album ‘Court In The Act’ (1983), SATAN signed to Listenable Records to release a direct successor to said album in 2013. The response to ‘Life Sentence’ was beyond all expectations; the album made it to a lot of magazine’s top albums of 2013, and SATAN were honoured to play at festivals all across Europe. 2013 also marked the band’s first ever live show in North America at ‘Wings of Metal’ festival, Montreal.

SATAN’s ‘second surge’ continued in 2014 with the band’s ‘Live Sentence’ world tour being a phenomenal success. Guitarist Steve Ramsey said: “Even back in the 80’s nothing we did could compare to this – 29 shows in four continents, 57 flights and 3 tour-buses.” Highlights included a headlining show at Bloodstock, the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, the band’s first appearance in Japan and playing to 22000 when SATAN opened for Maiden at Hellfest.

In late 2014 a live album was released on Listenable Records to coincide with the Fall dates of the ‘Live Sentence’ tour in North America and Japan. Titled ‘Trail of Fire – Live in North America’ the material for this album was recorded on the band’s East Coast tour earlier that year.

SATAN kicked off their ‘Trail Of Fire 2015′ with European dates in Germany, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Belgium and Holland. Presently they have just returned from a successful South American tour playing shows in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Colombia.
Somehow during that time they have also managed to record a new studio album ‘Atom By Atom’ which will be released in October on the Listenable Records label. The album features ten new songs written by the band, and is once again produced by Dario Mollo. SATAN have also enlisted the services of artist Eliran Kantor for the LP cover. According to Ramsey: “We were well aware that Life Sentence would take some beating but I think we’ve done it. We started writing almost two years ago and I believe this is our best material yet”.

The live shows will continue into the Autumn, starting with an appearance at Germany’s Headbangers Open Air fest July 25th.

Overruled is a thrashing speed metal powerhouse from The Netherlands. Founded in 2012, with a steady line-up since 2015 the band has rapidly grown into a solid live act.

Overruled live shows are a very energetic experience in which the band really lives for the moment, ripping hard, going fast and leaving the crowd gasping for air! With many performances on their name this band delivers high quality every time.

Objection? Overruled!

De heavy metal band Sad Iron is in 1979 in Hoorn opgericht door Bernard Rive.

Samen met Dirk Ooms (Bas), Gerrit Soering (drums) en Jan Palenstijn (zang) was de eerste line-up compleet! Nadat de band mee had gedaan aan een bandwedstrijd was het publiek unaniem van mening dat Sad Iron tot de top van de Nederlandse heavy metal hoorde en konden de eerste nummers vastgelegd worden op vinyl. De eerste live (split) record (Holland Heavy Metal vol. 1) was een feit met nummers als Sad Iron, Schoolgirls en Thunder & Lightning. Het publiek was van mening dat Sad Iron de beste band van de avond was en daarmee wonnen ze één dag studiotijd

welke resulteerde in de eerste full length LP ‘TOTAL DAMNATION’!! Met Herke van der Poel op zang en later Charles Heijnen op bas  was de band weer strijdklaar!

Sad Iron is één van de eerste, zoniet de eerste, speed metal band in Nederland en wordt wel vergeleken met bands als Raven en Exciter. De band heeft hierdoor aan de wieg gestaan van de New Wave of Dutch Heavy Metal!

De opnames voor opvolger van “Total Damnation” vonden in 1985 plaats en resulteerden in het album “The Antichrist”. Problemen met diverse platenmaatschappijen, zoals faillissement zorgden er voor dat de plaat pas vele jaren later uitgebracht zou worden.

Deze tegenslag leidde er toe dat de activiteiten van Sad Iron op een laag pitje werden gezet en er nog sporadisch werd opgetreden.

Echter in 2000 vond  een zeer succesvolle  reünie show plaats tijdens het Heavy Metal Maniacs Festival in Hoorn wat resulteerde in de succesvolle Dutch Steel Attack tour samen met Vortex en Hammerhawk welke langs verschillende Nederlandse en buitenlandse podia voerde.

In 2015 verscheen Sad Iron op het verzamelalbum Dutch Steel, een project van muziekjournalist Robert Haagsma. Hij was ook degene die de interesse in het album The Antichrist deed aanwakkeren hetgeen er toe leidde dat in 2016 de plaat eindelijk het levenslicht zag!

The Antichrist werd met veel enthousiasme ontvangen, zo noemde de Volkskrant het “een feelgood plaatje van de buitencategorie”.

Momenteel wordt hard gewerkt aan de opvolger welke binnen afzienbare tijd zal verschijnen.

Met deze line-up heeft Sad Iron inmiddels weer een verpletterende indruk achtergelaten op het Heavy Metal Maniacs Festival (2014), Mario’s Metal Meeting, Very Eavy festival, Schollenpop en tijdens diverse andere optredens met bijv. Raven, Tokyo Blade, Praying Mantis, Satan waarbij Sad Iron opviel vanwege de superstrakke show en het niet lullen maar spelen principe!

Kortom:  de band is weer helemaal terug in de metal scene!
